Repair or replace?
Many faults are solved by cleaning, clearing a drain or replacing a small part such as a capacitor or fan motor. If a compressor or main board has failed on an older unit, we explain whether repair or replacement makes more sense for you. The decision is always yours.
Switch the AC off at the breaker if you see sparks, smell burning or find water near electrical parts. Do not open the outdoor unit or touch the wiring yourself.

Why is my AC running but not cooling?
Common causes are dirty filters or coils, low refrigerant from a leak, a failing fan or compressor part, or a blocked outdoor unit. An inspection is needed to tell which one it is.
My AC needs gas. Can you just refill it?
Refrigerant is not used up like fuel. A low level usually points to a leak, so the system should be diagnosed first rather than just topped up. If a refill is needed, it should follow the manufacturer's specification.

Can you fix an AC that leaks water indoors?
